Qualcomm doesn't give up: to launch a rival for Apple's M1 chip in 2023

Last year, Apple introduced the first Apple Silicon chipset, known as the M1, which was used in computers like the MacBook Air, Mac mini and iMac. This year, the company launched the new M1 Pro and M1 Max, which are more powerful but equally efficient.

Apple was praised for its efforts, but It looks like in 2023, Qualcomm will launch its own competitor.

During the 2021 Investor Day event, Qualcomm’s Chief Technology Officer, Dr. James Thompson, revealed that the company will release its own PC chips in 2023.

The chipsets will be designed by the Nuvia team, formed by a trio of former Apple engineers who worked on the A-series chipset found in Apple’s iPhones and iPads, which Qualcomm acquired earlier this year for $1.4 billion.

According to Qualcomm, your chips will be competitive against Apple’s M series and will offer “Sustained performance and battery life”. It should be noted that this is not really Qualcomm’s first attempt to create chipsets for use in computers. The company had already tried to launch computers with Snapdragon chipsets.

They also worked with Microsoft to create custom chipsets used in the company’s Surface devices, but failed to garner the same attention or praise as Apple’s M-series chipsets.

Will the company have better luck this time? We’ll have to wait until 2023 to find out.
