PS5: a completely failed restock triggers the anger of Sony fans

Sony has just offered a restock of PS5 to buyers who have not yet been able to get their hands on the home console. Unfortunately, the company’s queue system encountered a serious bug. As a result, hopeful fans waited for over an hour in front of their screens when the supply of PlayStation 5 was already completely depleted.

After months of chronic shortage, many buyers have still not managed to get their hands on a PlayStation 5. Under pressure, Sony has assured that the stockouts will end in the second half of the year. The Japanese firm recently claimed to have taken measures to ensure the arrival of a large stock of PS5s on the market.

In this context, Sony organized a “PS5 direct restock” this Thursday, August 19, 2021. This type of event usually allows a handful of buyers to get a console. To ensure that all Internet users are on the same footing, the Tokyo firm has set up a random queue system.

Sony’s PS5 restock goes awry

This process ensures that speculators, who seek to buy consoles en masse for resale, are not at an advantage. Some scalpers indeed use bots capable of clicking for them. With a random queue, there is no point in using a robot. Like other buyers, speculators are forced towait wisely behind their screen.

As a rule, a restock of PS5 at Sony does not last more than 20 to 30 minutes, report our colleagues from Comicbook. When all of the PlayStation 5s have expired, Sony displays a message announcing that the restock is finished. This time, the queue dragged on far beyond the usual timing.

Unsurprisingly, most buyers assumed that Sony had a larger stock of consoles up for sale. This assumption is consistent with the brand’s later promises. Unfortunately for buyers, the system set up by Sony was the victim of a bug. Ultimately, the message announcing the exhaustion of stocks never appeared on the screen of users in the queue.

Some have waited more than an hour before realizing the obvious: Sony does not have more PS5 and forgot to warn them. Obviously, many consumers, overwhelmed by months of fruitless research, attacked the brand on Twitter. “They let you sit and wait in the queue for an hour and 15 minutes just to be out of stock”, regrets an Internet user. Another blames Sony’s lack of apologies.
