Pro Consumidor says they received four complaints for misleading advertising at Christmas

Pro Consumidor dice recibieron cuatro denuncias por publicidad engañosa en Navidad

The executive director of the National Institute for the Protection of Consumer Rights (Pro Consumidor), Eddy Alcántara, reported that this institution received four complaints of misleading advertising during the Christmas holidays.

Likewise, he indicated that due to Three Kings Day no complaints were reflected, which in his opinion is due to the policies implemented during this administration.

Alcántara highlighted that this fact is due to the fact that, as in Black Friday or “Black Friday” and in other high consumption activities, new procedures were applied to verify and supervise offers in the sale of goods and services for the benefit of consumers in the country.

“To date we have received four complaints from people who have had their rights as consumers violated and due to the offers of toys on the Day of the Kings, no case has been received,” he said.

The official also valued the level of compliance with the offers and the behavior of merchants who respected the rights of consumers and complied with the provisions of Law 358-05.

He explained that the establishments inspected in Greater Santo Domingo and other districts of the country during these festivities mostly complied with the realization of truthful and responsible advertising, thus overcoming the incorrect practices of previous years where many cases of misleading advertising were registered.

The director of the entity reiterated that the operations that have been carried out in his management have caused the complaints or claims to fall, as happened on “Black Friday”, when only nine were produced, contrary to 2020 that more than a thousand were registered, according to an institutional statement.
