The President of the Republic Luis Abinader received this Thursday the national basketball team that will compete in the First Window for the 2023 Basketball World Cup.
The president shared at noon on Thursday with the 12 players that make up the tricolor squad, his coaching staff headed by Melvyn López and engineer Rafael Uribe, president of the Dominican Basketball Federation (Fedombal), in the House Ambassadors Room of government.
Also present at the activity were the Administrative Minister of the Presidency, José Ignacio Paliza; and Vice Minister of Sports Franklin De la Mota, who represented Minister Francisco Camacho, who is in Colombia at the Junior Pan American Games in Cali.
President Abinader did not have official words at the formal ceremony, but he did give a harangue to the players while receiving greetings from each one of them and the coaches, to whom he expressed “congratulations guys, I’m proud of you”.
Engineer Uribe was kind enough to give a few words on behalf of the national team, in which he made a brief summary to President Abinader of the importance of the event in which they will participate on Sunday, November 28 and Monday, November 29, at the Palacio de los Deportes .
Uribe presented one by one the 12 players who will represent us in the international event, their origins and announced the professional leagues around the world where they currently participate.
“Have faith, Mr. President, in the quality and dedication of these players, who give everything for their country and for basketball, and they all feel very identified with you,” said the federated leader.
Uribe highlighted the solid support that President Abinader has given to the national team since he assumed the reins of the country in August of last year, and that a few months after settling in, he gave all his support to celebrate the “bubble” that was made. in Punta Cana, in Higuey, province of La Altagracia.
The head of the nation received the greeting of each one of the athletes, technicians and leaders of Fedombal present, and then he was given the jacket of the national team allusive to his person with the No.1 on the back, by Rafael Uribe.
For his part, President Abinader formally handed over the national flag to Rafael Uribe and I wish him luck in the event to compete.
The players present were Eloy Vargas, Gelvis Solano, Mike Torres, Andrés Feliz, Captain Víctor Liz, Gerardo Suero, Adonys Henríquez, Brandone Francis, Sadiel Rojas, Juan Guerrero, Jonathan Araújo and Jeromy Rodríguez.
The senior national basketball team makes up Group C of the Americas in the 2023 World Cup Qualifier, along with the Virgin Islands, Canada and the Bahamas.
The matches in this window will be on Sunday 28, from 5:00 pm between the Bahamas and Canada, and at 8:00 pm, the Virgin Islands against the Dominican.
