Pope Francis’ Doctors Reveal Life-Threatening Crisis During Hospitalization

Pope Francis’ health was so bad at one point that his doctors thought about stopping treatment.
They had to choose between letting him go or keeping him alive with medicine.
This happened on February 28 when the Pope, who is 88, had breathing problems and choked on his own vomit.

Professor Sergio Alfieri said this was the worst time.
The team had to decide what to do.
They chose to keep treating him even though it was risky.

The Pope’s nurse, Massimiliano Strappetti, wanted to try everything.
He said, “We won’t give up. That’s what we all thought, and no one gave up.”

The Pope left the hospital on March 23 after 38 days.
He was treated for pneumonia in both lungs.
His doctors said he had two close calls that put his life in danger.

While he was in the hospital, the Vatican gave updates on his condition.
Professor Alfieri said the Pope wanted to know the truth about his health.
He said, “From day one, he asked us to tell him the truth… No information was changed or hidden.”

Now, the Pope is back at his home in Vatican City.
He needs to rest for at least two months and will get medical care 24/7.
He will do physical therapy to help him breathe, get oxygen, and regain his voice.
