Customs officials in Montevideo have seized dozens of cell phones and thousands of electronic accessories in a crackdown on illegal imports.
Large-Scale Operation
The crackdown, led by the Customs Response and Intelligence Group, targeted four local businesses selling cell phones and electronic accessories.
Investigators found that these products had been brought into the country illegally, and some accessories were counterfeit.
The seized items included over 80 cell phones and 3,000 phone cases, among other accessories.
Significant Financial Impact
The total value of the confiscated goods was more than 8 million pesos.
Customs authorities are continuing their investigation into the illegal importation and sale of these products.
