Police assure that the Texas aggressor entered the school without opposition

La Policía asegura que el agresor de Texas entró en la escuela sin oposición

The Police assured this Thursday that the attacker of the Uvalde school (Texas, USA) entered the building without opposition, thus denying some information published in the last hours according to which before the shooting he would have faced a security guard security.

"It has been published that a security agent from the school district would have confronted the suspect as he entered, but this is not true. He entered the school unopposed"indicated in a press conference the regional director for South Texas of the Department of Public Security, Víctor Escalón.

During his appearance this Thursday, Escalón tried to defend the work of the agents of the different police forces that intervened in the operation, at a time when criticism has been triggered on social networks and the media for what is perceived as too slow response to attack.

Several videos recorded on Tuesday circulate on the internet of parents and relatives of students in the vicinity of the school screaming and confronting the Police for, in their opinion, not intervening while a shooting is taking place inside.

According to the Police’s own version, up to an hour passed between the time the perpetrator of the shooting, Salvador Ramos, entered the Uvalde school and until he was shot down by a Border Patrol agent.

During that time, Ramos shot into a class full of children, killing 19 of them and two teachers.

As Escalón explained this Thursday, the school lock would have been open when Ramos arrived at the center, for reasons that are still being investigated.

After shooting his grandmother in the face at home, Ramos got into a vehicle and drove to the vicinity of Robb Elementary School, where he had an accident around 11:28 a.m. local time.

From the crash site he walked with a rifle and ammunition for 12 minutes until he entered the school at around 11:40 local time. Four minutes later, the police stormed the school.

On his way to the school on foot, Ramos shot two people who were in a funeral home across the street, without causing any injuries.

When local police officers arrived at the scene, they heard shots and identified the classroom where the assailant was, but they were unable to access it because Ramos opened fire on them every time they tried.

Those agents called for reinforcements and began the evacuation of students and faculty from the rest of the school.

It was about an hour after Ramos entered the school that Border Patrol special agents arrived and managed to shoot him down.

The motives that led Ramos, with no known criminal history or mental illness, to carry out the massacre are still being investigated.
