Play at 7 PM

Jugar a las 7 P.M.

Currently, in the Monday-Friday club format, games are played at 7 PM in San Francisco, at 7:15 in Santo Domingo, and at 7:30 in La Romana, Santiago and San Pedro. I have written on this subject several times, but it deserves the attention of the Lidom teams.

It is not good to start at 7:30 because here the time control is absent. Why will it be? There are several factors, starting from the games of the capital with very long trading patterns (that’s good because it makes them more money), but one of the main issues is the request for play reviews. Managers take a long time to decide and referees and the Review Center take much longer.

Why start at 7 PM? Citizen security issue. The games last 4 hours, the people who are at the play come back at midnight and that is dangerous, even for those who are in their vehicles.

QUALITY: Another issue that I have mentioned is the need for the mobile unit, or the company that transmits the games under contract (Charlie Sánchez), to invest heavily in cameras and replay equipment for challenging plays.

Lidom is already in the eye of the hurricane in the USA and the world, after an excellent contract with the MLB Network. This way additional money comes in, but the show needs to be improved.

Lidom and his contractor must invest in equipment that facilitates more camera shots and replay fidelity. 99% of them look “fogged”, like the front window of a car without air conditioning.

TWO: They must also put headphones on two umpires to receive the Review Center’s decision, as is done in MLB. Now they have been doing it in conversation on a cell phone, but only one referee listens. That is incorrect and even dangerous, because one can only listen badly and say something contrary to what was said. The investment in that sense is minimal.

MARKETING: Lidom must improve its covid 19 information system and apply it to the final and the Caribbean Series. They should get used to a weekly bulletin and say the number of affected by team, not necessarily the names. This would avoid speculation.

TABLE: Ninth inning, runner on base, Yermín Mercedes vs. the effective Juan Minaya, closer of the Cibao Giants, slate 2-2. On a 3-ball no-strike count, Yermín bought and sent the ball well into left center for a home run. The board was placed 4 for 2 and later hit by debutant Yasmani Tomás drove in the 5th. Licey won 5 for 2, his first round robin victory against the Giants after 4 losses. Licey is still alive, now 6-8 in third.

THE GREENS: Jeremy Peña hit a two-run homer, the Stars took a 6-0 lead by the 6th. inning and survived an eagle reaction to win 6-4… The Stars, with 8-6, are one game behind the first place occupied by the Giants, now with 9-5… The Eagles, with 5- 9, in a terrible situation, almost on the verge of elimination… Tonight, Licey and Águilas in the capital, the Stars visit the Giants… The Greens have won 5 in a row.
