Jean Segura and Rhys Hoskins hit back-to-back homers in the second inning, Ranger Suarez pitched six solid innings and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Seattle Mariners 9-0 on Monday night.
Nick Castellanos finished with three hits, including two doubles. Castellanos’ RBI double in the fourth started a three-run inning off starter Chris Flexen.
The Phillies added three more runs off reliever Diego Castillo in the seventh, with RBIs from Castellanos, Segura and Hoskins. Castillo has allowed nine earned runs in his last three appearances.
Rookie Julio Rodriguez was the only joy for Seattle, with the second three-hit game of his fledgling career. Aside from Rodriguez, Seattle’s only hit off Suarez was an infield single by Jesse Winker.
Suarez (3-1) struck out seven, the Venezuelan’s best mark this season.
For his part, Flexen (1-5) had not allowed more than three earned runs in his first five starts.
For the Phillies, Dominican Jean Segura 4-2 with two runs scored and three RBIs. The Venezuelan Odubel Herrera 5-2.
For the Mariners, the Dominican Julio Rodríguez 4-3. The Venezuelan Eugenio Suárez 2-0; Luis Torrens 3-0.
