The president of Colombia, Gustavo Prieto, apologized, this Wednesday, to Haiti for the assassination of its president Jovenel Moise, on July 7, 2021 at the hands of former Colombian soldiers. Although he did not offer further details, Petro is in New York, at the UN General Assembly and shared the information through his Twitter account.

“Today I apologized to Haiti for the assassination of its president committed by Colombian mercenaries,” the president wrote.

Moise was murdered in his home and to date, the investigations, which have led to the appointment of five investigating judges, have not covered his mastermind and the reasons that led him to order the crime.

For the murder there are at least 40 people detained in Haiti, including 18 former Colombian soldiers, who opened the command.

After the assassination, the rise in violence, insecurity, kidnappings and the political crisis that the country is experiencing has been increasing.

The gangs control the streets, including the capital, Port-au-Prince, and the protests against the increase in gasoline and against the government do not stop.

The nation suffers from widespread political instability, as protests continue for President Ariel Henry to resign.
