On Saturday, December 17, 2022 at the Julián Javier stadium, the right fielder of the Leones del Escogido Peter O’Brien hit his fourth home run of the season in a victory for the scarlet team with a score of 9-8 in the last game of the regular series against the shipments of the pitcher Marcos Mejía of the Gigantes del Cibao. O’Brien started the game defending right field.
This challenge was extended to twelve long episodes. The batter was then called in the tenth inning to pitch. A fact that crystallized it through two episodes and two thirds allowing five hits.
One of these was a home run by Eric Filia in the bottom of the twelfth inning, he walked two times, scored five runs and didn’t strike out anyone, but he was the game-winning pitcher.
It was the third time in Dominican baseball that a defenseman hit a home run and then acted as a relief pitcher and won the game. But O’Brien’s case is stranger because of the number of hits he allowed, the number of runs scored against him and being the only one to allow a home run.
