Australian Open semi-finalist Tommy Paul and McKenzkie McDonald, who knocked out Rafael Nadal at Melbourne Park, are among interim captain David Nainkin’s picks for the Davis Cup matchup against Uzbekistan next week.
Nainkin’s appointment was announced Friday, three weeks after Mardy Fish’s captaincy ended.
Nainkin has been a member of the United States Tennis Association since 2004. His assistant for upcoming matches will be Dean Goldfine, who coached 20-year-old Ben Shelton on his way to the quarterfinals in Australia.
Paul edged out Shelton in the quarterfinals before losing to Novak Djokovic on Friday.
The other members of the American team are Denis Kudla, Rajeev Ram and Austin Krajicek. Kudla replaces Jenson Brooksby on the team.
The matches will take place on a hard court indoors on February 3 and 4.
