‘The Kashmir Files’ emerged as one of the most unexpected hits of 2022. The film Vivek Agnihotri grossed over Rs 300 crore on a budget of just Rs 15 crore, with no “big stars” in the cast. And now, he too is among the contenders for India’s choice for this year’s Oscars.

However, not everyone has been in favor of a film that represents India globally. Filmmakers Anurag Kashyap and Dylan Mohan Gray have been quite vocal in their distaste for the film. Now, Pallavi Joshi, who not only starred in the film but also co-produced it with her husband Vivek (director), has responded to these comments.

Pallavi Joshi said: “Any film you produce, especially one you’ve spent four years making, becomes your child. And you definitely don’t want your baby to be named. I’m very positive about The Kashmir Files. So at this stage, if someone tells you that your son can become the president of the United States, you like it. Similarly, when someone says that your film should go to the Oscars, I feel very happy.

The Kashmir Files is the story of the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The film was praised for its depiction of the conflict and time period, but was criticized by many for presenting an unfair picture. one-sided problem. Speaking of this criticism, Pallavi says, “Because the film also makes a political statement, many people who don’t agree with that policy will oppose it. It’s okay to have a different opinion. That is democracy. But an award has to do with cinematic merit, its cinematic excellence and its flaws. Judge the movie accordingly. But do it only on the basis of its cinematic merit. That is all my request. Don’t bring anything else there.”

Pallavi says he’s keeping his fingers crossed about the film’s prospects at the Oscars, but at the same time he’s nonchalant about it. “If we make it to the Oscars, I’ll be happy over the moon. If it doesn’t, it wasn’t meant to be. But The Kashmir Files wasn’t the only good movie made this year. There will be a jury, who will sit down and decide.” all the movies, there is competition and I like that”, he says with a laugh.
