Demand for action under Article 6 against Pakistani Prime Minister
Punjab Parliamentary Affairs Minister Basharat Raja introduced a motion in the House demanding action against Prime Minister Sharif under Article 6 (sedition) of the Constitution. Punjab is ruled by former Prime Minister Imran Khan-led Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party and its ally PMLQ. The passed resolution said that the prime minister held discussions with a fugitive Nawaz Sharif in London a few days ago regarding the appointment of a new army chief, who has been the prime minister of Pakistan three times. According to the resolution, this consultation is a violation of the Prime Minister’s oath not to share sensitive information with unrelated people, but also an insult to an institution like the army.
Shahbaz also met Nawaz Sharif
Prime Minister Shahbaz was in London to attend the state funeral of the late British Queen Elizabeth II. During his visit to London, he also met former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and discussed with him the appointment of the next army chief. Nawaz has been living in London since November 2019, when the Lahore High Court granted him bail for eight weeks on medical grounds in a corruption case. Since this meeting, the Imran-led party has intensified the siege of Shahbaz.
