Gustavo Veiga, journalist for Página / 12 and author of the book Sports, missing persons and dictatorship, Among other publications, he received on Tuesday the diploma that accredits him as an Outstanding Personality of the City of Buenos Aires, in recognition of his investigations into the detained-disappeared people of Argentine sports.

Veiga, who joined this newspaper in 1998 in the Sports section and in the Líbero supplement, published the first edition of his book in 2006, but later he added new cases and investigations, which led to two new expanded reissues.

The initiative for Veiga to be recognized in the Buenos Aires Legislature came from the deputy and former soccer player Claudio Morresi, who celebrated the event held in the Dorado Hipólito Yrigoyen room. “Today we distinguish a person who has done something extremely important that will remain in history: when Gustavo began to put faces, images and hearts to each athlete who disappeared, they had another potential, and somehow I think we did justice to them” , said Morresi, former Secretary of Sports of the Nation and legislator for the Frente de Todos.

In his speech, Veiga was concerned about the growing cases of racism and xenophobia in different parts of the world, as well as the increasingly frequent appearance of extreme right-wing groups. “State terrorism can never return anywhere, and I am really worried because we are living in an increasingly complicated world. We have to be vigilant and vigilant, we cannot tolerate racism and xenophobia. I want to remember all those who have disappeared. and those who suffer the conditions of exploitation and persecution, “said the journalist and writer.
