Ott Tanak wants to prolong his leadership in the World Cup. After winning in Sweden and taking the lead in the championship, he has started strongly in Mexico, crowning himself king of the night in Guanajuato, the World Heritage city that has given shelter to the two initial super special stages of the test.
The Mexican event began with two night passes for a short stretch of just over a kilometer that ran through the narrow streets of the city and through its mining tunnels. A party in which the public has packed every corner and that little serves as a reference for the remainder of the weekend, since its floor was made of asphalt and cobblestones.
And there Tanak has come out for all, knowing that in the first stage he is going to suffer opening the track, for which he has decided to give himself a previous ‘tribute’ by winning the two passes. “Today was a bit of fun, tomorrow comes work,” she assured when she finished. “For sure it will not be an easy day, but we have to maximize. Let’s see what the first stage has in store for us, since I had never driven this car on gravel before”.
Kalle Rovanpera and Esapekka Lappi chase the Estonian in qualifying, while Dani Sordo took it easy, knowing that his great opportunity comes in the sections of the first stage, in which he will have the best starting position. For this reason, he enjoyed the party: “The people make it special and I’m sure the stages are really beautiful, but the atmosphere is what makes this rally different”, he assured at the end.
