Oslo: Two killed in indiscriminate shooting at a nightclub

Oslo: Two people were killed and several others were injured in an armed attack on a nightclub in Norway. In the capital, Oslo, a gunman broke into a nightclub and opened fire.

A police spokesman told local media that the suspect was arrested minutes after the attack, but that the assailant had earlier indiscriminately opened fire on people at the scene and on a nearby road.

“I saw a man with a bag who picked up a gun and started firing at people,” said a local Norwegian journalist as an eyewitness.

The New York Times reports that the bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a London nightclub in central Oslo. Police say the incident is being investigated as a terrorist attack.

Police say the suspect in the Oslo nightclub and bar shooting is a Norwegian citizen of Iranian descent. The Norwegian intelligence service already had the suspect’s criminal record, in which he had been jailed for minor offenses such as possession of a knife and drugs.
