Ortega, debutant in MLB, joins Tigres del Licey

Oliver Ortega was one of seven members of the Tigres del Licey franchise who made their debut during this year’s Major League Baseball season.

And it is one of the most recent additions to the training of the glorious blue team that is preparing for its participation in the next fall-winter baseball tournament starting on the 27th.

"The pitching coach took me to the manager’s office and there they gave me the news. I even cried, then the classmates made a big noise at me. The first one I called was my mother, who also cried with emotion"recalls the native right-hander from Nagua.

Ortega is considered the 14th prospect in the Los Angeles Angels organization. In eight major league games he was 1-0 with a 4.82 ERA. In 9.1 innings, he allowed 12 hits, 5 earned runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts.

Other pitchers who have also joined the team’s practices are Adonis Medina, Dauris Valdez and Gabriel Arias along with first baseman Carlos Franco and receiver and third baseman Roldani Baldwin.

The Tigres will start the season as homeowners against the Leones del Escogido in the game scheduled for the opening day starting at 7:15 pm at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
