Ohtani strikes out eight, Castillo nine, Mariners beat Angels

Angels star Shohei Ohtani struck out eight and allowed two runs in six innings before the Seattle Mariners scored four runs in the ninth and took advantage of poor outfield work to beat Los Angeles 6-2 on Monday.

Jesse Winker and JP Crawford each had two hits and two RBIs for the Mariners, who moved ahead of Toronto and Baltimore for the American League wild card.

Winker, who homered in the first inning, has scored in 12 of his last 13 games.

It was the first time since May 18 that Ohtani left without a decision. He was 7-5 with a 2.60 ERA in his last 12 starts.

Luis Rengifo homered for Los Angeles, while Jared Walsh had two hits and an RBI.

The game went into the ninth with a 2-2 tie before the Mariners took the lead.

The Mexican Andrés Muñoz (2-4) won the victory. The defeat went to the record of Aaron Loup (0-4).

For the Mariners, the Dominican Julio Rodríguez 5-0 with a run scored. The Venezuelan Eugenio Suarez 2-0.

For the Angels, Venezuelan Luis Rengifo 4-1 with a run scored. Dominican Magneuris Sierra 4-1.
