A wave of worry has swept through the Odia music scene. Beloved singer and composer Abhijit Majumdar is critically ill. He is currently in a coma, fighting for his life at AIIMS Bhubaneswar. Fans are sending prayers and well wishes for the 54-year-old artist.
Majumdar, a name spoken with great respect in the Odia music world, has been placed on ventilator support. His health took a sudden turn for the worse. Reports indicate he fell ill on August 27 after attending Ganesh Puja events. Doctors found a severe drop in his sodium levels. He was first admitted to a private hospital in Cuttack.
His condition worsened, leading to an ICU transfer on August 31. By September 4, things were dire. He was rushed to the Emergency Ward at AIIMS Bhubaneswar, already in a coma-like state. That same afternoon, he was moved to the Medical ICU. There, he continues to receive intensive treatment on a ventilator.

Dr. Srikanth Behera, an Assistant Professor in AIIMS’s General Medicine department, shared an update. He confirmed Majumdar’s condition remains serious. The singer has also developed pneumonia. While his blood pressure and pulse are stable, his overall situation is fragile. Dr. Behera explained that recovery is challenging due to Majumdar’s pre-existing health issues. These include hypertension, hypothyroidism, and chronic liver disease.
Community Rallies in Support
The news of Majumdar’s illness has resonated widely. Naveen Patnaik, the former Chief Minister of Odisha and BJD President, expressed his concern. He posted on social media platform X, wishing Majumdar a speedy recovery. Patnaik noted the popular musician’s critical state at AIIMS. He then offered his prayers to Lord Jagannath for the artist’s swift return to health.
