The bitcoin (BTC) blockchain made it possible for the first time in the financial world to analyze all transaction data of an asset down to the last detail. You obviously do not take the transactions on the stock exchanges with you, but all activity on the blockchain is fantastic to map. What is striking is that the number of people with 1 to 10 bitcoins has exploded in 2022.
More and more people with 1 bitcoin
Many novice bitcoiners set themselves the goal of owning 1 bitcoin as soon as possible. In 2022, many people have succeeded in achieving that goal, as the number of bitcoin held by people with 1 to 10 bitcoin has increased from 1.7 million to about 1.9 million bitcoin from the beginning of 2022. Over the past 10 to 11 months, more than 200,000 bitcoins have been purchased by this cohort of bitcoiners.
This statistic does not include the people who have more than 10 bitcoins, which there are a lot of. It is important to keep in mind that this does not have to mean that 200,000 people have been added who now own 1 bitcoin. After all, it is possible to create multiple wallets as an individual. Furthermore, people who own 1 bitcoin at an exchange are not included in these statistics.
Shrimps also buy a lot
The so-called shrimps are also buying in considerably at the moment and thus ‘benefit’ from the ever lower prices. We qualify an entity as ‘shrimp’ if a wallet holds between 0.1 and 1.0 bitcoin. The number of bitcoin held by shrimps has increased from approximately 772,000 to 911,000 bitcoin since January 1, 2022.
This means that the shrimps have bought in almost as hard as bitcoiners with 1 to 10 bitcoin. They have bought about 200,000 bitcoins over the same period, while this cohort of bitcoiners has bought 140,000. Two impressive numbers, which show that investor confidence in bitcoin is still there at the moment.
