New York City will allow crowds to gather in Times Square on New Year’s Eve to ring in 2022, Mayor Bill de Blasio announced Tuesday, after the pandemic silenced last year’s celebrations.
Hundreds of thousands will be able to attend the traditional fall of the huge ball at midnight, provided that can demonstrate that they are fully vaccinated against coronavirusde Blasio confirmed to reporters.
Attendees who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons must present a negative covid test no more than 72 hours before the event.
"We want it to be great, we want it to be full of life, we want it to be a great celebration in New York"said de Blasio.
Times Square was practically empty on New Year’s Eve last year, and only essential workers and guests could see the ball drop from areas with social distancing.
