Several technological innovations usually arrive from the Asian continent and today one more has arrived. The China Communications Standards Association has just announced a new universal standard for fast charging support.

The announcement launched the first batch of 11 certifications of this type of load and several Chinese smartphone manufacturers joined this news. Renowned names in the market, such as Xiaomi, Huawei, OPPO and Vivo will now subject their equipment to these new certifications.

According to the aforementioned Chinese authority, the new universal fast charging standard aims to promote the development of this technology in five essential points:

  • Improve fast charging solution and extend its support to multiple applications
  • Standardize fast charging in a standard that is valid on an industrial scale
  • Follow the progress of international fast charging standardization
  • Promote the use of a unified fast charging standard by companies
  • And also improve the certification and identification of third parties.

The new standard announced was called Universal Fast Charging Specification or UFCS and the brands that have joined this announcement have already announced that they will adopt it in their future models.

In more practical terms, one of the new certifications presented today provides a maximum power of 40 watts in a first stage, with the second stage already reaching a maximum power of 65 watts.

It still does not reach the current level of 120 watts and much less than 200 watts that some Chinese models, by the way, already provide in high-end smartphones already available on the Chinese market.

But the Chinese authority promised to continue working on the development of this standard so that it can offer the maximum powers already known by users.
