New ceasefire agreement in Sudan

SUDAN CEASE FIRE AGREEMENT

Riyadh (BLAZETRENDS).- The Sudanese Army and the Rapid Support Forces (FAR) paramilitary group signed a new seven-day ceasefire agreement mediated by Saudi Arabia and the United States, aimed at ensuring of humanitarian aid and guarantee the protection of civilian people and installations, it was officially reported this Sunday.

According to the agreement, signed on Saturday night in the Saudi port city of Jeddah, the cessation of hostilities in Sudan will come into effect from 9:45 p.m. local Saudi Arabia time tomorrow Monday (18:45 GMT), and “may be extended after agreement of the two parties” in conflict, faced since April 15.

“The two sides agreed to facilitate the arrival and distribution of humanitarian aid, restore basic services and withdraw forces from hospitals,” said a Saudi-American statement released by the Saudi kingdom’s Foreign Ministry.

“They also agreed to facilitate access and safe passage for aid and humanitarian personnel to allow the unhindered flow of aid from ports to those in need,” it added.
