The second stage of the 33rd edition of the National Championship will be inaugurated this Friday with the participation of 325 athletes from different provinces of the country.
The opening of this event, which is dedicated to the legendary wrestling leader, Cristóbal Tavárez, will take place at 10:00 in the morning, in the wrestling pavilion of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center.
The tournament will take place in the youth category and athletes between 17 and 20 years of age will participate. The event will conclude on Sunday with the finals and the awarding of the winning teams.
The president of the Dominican Wrestling Federation, Mr. Antonio Acosta, highlighted the importance of this tournament because it brings together the best talent in this sport from all over the country.
Acosta pointed out that the athletes who are participating in these events today “constitute the relay” of the coming national teams.
Last week a first stage was held with more than 300 child athletes and was won by the representation of San Juan de la Maguana.
“Great champions have emerged from these tournaments. We do it with the effort to carry out this promotion and development project. Here is the future of the fight”, assured Acosta.
The tournament is dedicated to Cristóbal Tavarez, in recognition of his dedication for more than 50 years in the development of wrestling in his native Santiago.
The preliminary competitions of this youth tournament begin this Friday and will reward the first winners of the 17-20 age categories.
