Mumbai's thrilling win by 9 runs, Punjab defeated at home

Mumbai Indians defeated Punjab Kings by 9 runs in a thrilling match. Mumbai had scored 192 runs while batting first. Suryakumar Yadav’s powerful fifty helped MI to a big score. In pursuit of the target, the Punjab team got off to a very shameful start as Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee bowled lethally under their spell, reducing Punjab’s score to 4 wickets for just 14 runs. Due to the absence of Shikhar Dhawan, the team’s top position had collapsed significantly. Purple Cap holder Jasprit Bumrah broke the back of Punjab’s batting power by taking three wickets in the game. Ashutosh Sharma scored the most runs for Punjab. Ashutosh had scored 61 runs in 28 balls, including two fours and seven sixes, but could not lead the team to victory.

In the last 6 overs, Punjab Kings needed 65 runs to win but only 3 wickets were in hand. But at the other end was Ashutosh Sharma, who batted furiously. When Akash Madhwal came to bowl in the 16th over of the innings, he gave away 24 runs in the over. From then on the game looked one-sided as Punjab now needed just 28 runs in 24 balls. The game stalled after Ashutosh’s wicket fell in the 18th over. Punjab needed 23 runs in the last two overs. When Harpreet Brar departed after scoring 21 runs in 20 balls, almost all hopes of a victory for Punjab were gone. As soon as Rabada was out, the Punjab team was down for 183 runs. Mumbai won this match by 9 runs.
