Motorola Unveils X70 Air, World’s Lightest Smartphone

Motorola has introduced a new smartphone, the X70 Air, in China, setting a new global benchmark as the lightest device in the increasingly competitive ultra-thin market. The company aims to challenge established rivals Apple and Samsung with its latest offering.

The X70 Air weighs a mere 159 grams, making it the lightest smartphone currently available. This surpasses the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge, which previously held the title at 163 grams.

While setting a new standard for lightness, the Motorola device also maintains a slim profile, measuring 5.99 millimeters thick. This is slightly thicker than the iPhone Air’s 5.6 millimeters, which remains the thinnest on the market.

Motorola has equipped the X70 Air with a robust 4,800 mAh battery. This capacity is notably larger than those found in ultra-light models from Apple and Samsung, addressing a common compromise in thin device design. The phone also supports 68W fast charging via cable.

The new smartphone features a 6.7-inch OLED display with flat edges and a peak brightness of up to 4,500 nits. An in-display fingerprint reader is also included.

For photography, the X70 Air boasts a triple rear camera module, featuring a 50-megapixel main sensor alongside two additional lenses and a flash in a square arrangement. This configuration provides more versatility than the single rear camera on the iPhone Air and surpasses the dual camera setup of the Galaxy S25 Edge.

Under the hood, the device is powered by a mid-range Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chip, complemented by 12GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 internal storage. It runs on Android 16 and includes a 3D vapor chamber for cooling and dual speakers.

The X70 Air was unveiled on Lenovo’s Chinese website, Motorola’s parent company. While currently available only in China, reports suggest a potential international release under the name “Edge 70.”
