MotoGP Champion Jorge Martín Injured, Breaks Left Hand, Misses Thailand GP

Jorge Martín breaks his left hand and will not be able to run the Thailand GP

Jorge Martín’s start with APRILIA has been nothing short of disastrous. The current MotoGP world champion suffered a serious injury on the first day of pre-season testing in Sepang, falling victim to a violent high-side crash that left him with a broken right hand, among other ailments. As a result, he was unable to participate in the remaining test days in Malaysia or the subsequent training session in Buriram.

In a cruel twist of fate, Martín has now suffered another setback while training in Andorra, this time injuring his left hand. According to reports from Motorsport, the injury is severe enough to require surgery, which will be performed by Doctor Xavier Mir at the Quirón Dexeus clinic in Barcelona. This means that Martín will be forced to sit out the upcoming Thailand GP, a significant blow to his chances of getting off to a strong start with his new team.

Another operation … this time in the other hand

The two-time world champion, who dominated in Moto3 in 2018 and was crowned MotoGP champion in 2024, will undergo surgery to repair the damage to his left hand. This is a devastating development for Martín, who has already been playing catch-up after missing valuable testing time. The 26-year-old rider will now have to work even harder to adapt to his new APRILIA RS-GP 2025 bike, all while dealing with the physical limitations of his injury.

The question on everyone’s mind is whether Martín will be fit to compete in the next Queen Class World Cup event in Argentina, scheduled to take place in two weeks. Additionally, there is speculation about whether APRILIA will call upon test pilot Lorenzo Savadori to replace Martín in Thailand. One thing is certain, however: Martín’s start to the season has been anything but ideal, and he will have to dig deep to get his campaign back on track.
