The Stars achieved their second victory in a row this Friday by defeating the Águilas Cibaeñas 3-1 in a match held at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium in this city, corresponding to the 2022-2023 autumn-winter baseball tournament.
Elehuris Montero was the All-Star “Star Player” by driving in the three runs from a double with the bases loaded in the third inning for the green team (13-20), which is one game away from fourth place, occupied by the Toros del Este, who lost 6-5 to the Tigres del Licey (22-10) at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium.
“This victory has a good meaning because it brings us closer to the Bulls,” Montero said after the match.
Likewise, the Estrellas broke a six-loss streak against the Águilas in the current season, which is dedicated to the memory of Don Tomás Troncoso, an option for the Banreservas Cup.
The victory went to starter Yennsy Díaz (1-1), who, like Phillips Valdez and Oscar de la Cruz, have been able to reach the five-inning barrier. In that span of work, the Azua native allowed four hits and five strikeouts.
“Today I had good commands from my pitches, especially the slider and the changeup, something that I needed. The slider was my best pitch. The straight line was also very good, as was the gearbox”, Díaz pointed out.
The setback was for Joan Adón (0-1), who in three innings allowed three hits, three runs, two walks and two strikeouts.
The save was credited to him by Ronel Blanco, his second of the tournament.
Diaz was escorted onto the mound by Dayeison Arias, who pitched the one-hit, one-strikeout sixth inning. He followed Gerson Moreno (1.0), Rafael Dolis (1.0) and Ronel Blanco (0.2).
On his side, Adon was relieved by Wendolyn Bautista (3.0), Junior Fernández (1.0) and Nick Hernández (1.0).

The Stars took control of the game 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning on Elehuris Montero’s double to center field with the bases loaded.
In the ninth, the Águilas made their only run, after Ezequiel Durán advanced to the first by selection play and in the action, Aneury Tavárez entered the race.
