Modi Japan Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving for a visit to Japan today. He will attend the state funeral of former Japanese prime minister and his friend Shinzo Abe on September 27. Modi said in his tweet, “I am going to Tokyo tonight to attend the state funeral of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe.” He described Abe as a dear friend and a great supporter of Indo-Japan friendship.

The Prime Minister said that he would meet Prime Minister Kishida and Mrs. Abe to express his condolences on behalf of all Indians. “We will continue to work to further strengthen India-Japan relations in line with Abe’s vision,” he said. Earlier, while giving this information, Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra told reporters that during this visit of about 12 to 16 hours, Prime Minister Modi will have a meeting and bilateral meeting with his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida. He said that Prime Minister Modi will leave for Japan a few hours from now.

Former PM was shot dead

He said Modi would meet Abe’s wife during the visit and personally condole. Japan’s longest-serving prime minister, Shinzo Abe, was shot dead on July 8 by an assailant during an election campaign in the country’s western region. Kwatra said that Japanese Prime Minister Kishida had visited India in March this year and Prime Minister Modi had gone there in May to attend the Quad meeting. He pointed out that this year marks the 70th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic ties, and the two leaders would get an opportunity to hold talks on further deepening their special strategic ties.

Strong ties between India and Japan

The Foreign Secretary said that the relations between India and Japan are getting stronger and there is close cooperation between the two countries in the fields of trade and investment, defense and security, climate change, energy, infrastructure, industrial development, human resources. He said that during the visit there will be a brief bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Modi and the Japanese Prime Minister in which people from both sides will be present. Kwatra said representatives of 100 countries, including 20 heads of government, would be present to attend the state funeral of former Japanese Prime Minister Abe. Asked whether Prime Minister Modi and Kishida will hold talks on the bullet train project, Kwatra said in this meeting the two sides will discuss and review bilateral ties, and their progress, and to narrow it down to a single topic. will not fix .

Referring to Prime Minister Modi’s close ties with Abe, he said India had declared a day of national mourning in honor of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He said while condoling Abe’s death, Modi had described him as a “dear friend” and said the former Japanese prime minister had dedicated his life to making the world a better place.
