Merchants claim shortage has generated RD $ 50,000 MM to speculators

The United Retail Group of the Dominican Republic (GDURD) denounced that this sector suffers the effects of a deep crisis of shortage of industrialized and imported products in the midst of this Covid-19 pandemic, which has generated profits in excess of RD $ 50,000 millions in favor of speculators.

Ricardo Rosario, general coordinator of the entity, said that the moment advises the creation of a great national alliance of commercial leadership in order to face the problem, both local and international, which directly impacts supplies, increases administrative costs and causes a rise in prices for food and services.

“It is imperative the need to work together to strengthen our unions and collaborate with the Government of the day in the search for solutions that ruin the protection of consumers and the continuity of our businesses,” added Rosario during the “National Meeting of Commercial Leaders: Rumbo 2022 ”.

He emphasized that the retail, wholesale and medium-sized supermarkets has suffered from a deep product supply crisis industrialized and imported, which generates hoarding, speculation and high prices.

He explained that the decrease in shipments of sardines, flour, edible oils, detergents, eggs, malts, herring, cod, garlic and beer has generated large profits for speculators.
