Megastar Chiranjeevi Secures Court Order Protecting Name, Image, Voice Rights

A Hyderabad court has issued an interim order, prohibiting various entities from commercially using actor Chiranjeevi’s name, image, and voice without his explicit permission. This significant ruling protects the veteran star’s personality rights.

Chiranjeevi himself approached the City Civil Court. He sought to prevent over 30 defendants, including digital media platforms and clothing companies, from exploiting his identity.

The petition specifically requested protection for his name, voice, image, and other associated characteristics. It aims to stop any unauthorized use of his persona.

The court recognized Chiranjeevi as one of the most prominent figures in both the Telugu and wider South Indian film industries. His widespread recognition was a key factor in the decision.

The court stated that his name and various titles, such as Megastar, Boss, and Chiru, along with his voice and image, constitute his personality. These elements were deemed his “USP” and are well-known to the general public.

The interim order, issued last month, strictly forbids defendants from directly or indirectly infringing upon his personality and publicity rights. The next hearing in the case is scheduled for October 27.
