Matthew Hayden shares memories related to Andrew Symonds and Kevin Pietersen, also told anecdote

Sad news broke for cricket lovers on Sunday morning: former Australian cricketer Andrew Symonds has died at the age of 46. According to media reports, Andrew Symonds was killed in a car accident in Townsville on Saturday night. Local police said Symonds was seriously injured in the crash. Before the IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants and Rajasthan Royals, Matthew Hayden shares some memories of his and Symonds’ career.

<p style="text alignment: justify;"The former Australia starter on Star Sports said "I had a beautiful memory of Symonds when he jumped into my arms at the MCG. He always wanted to be known not as an ODI-T20 specialist but as a test cricketer. He has to be seen scoring runs in front of 90,000 people at the Boxing Day Test. He took care of me when I was in a lot of pain, that day was very special for his family."

<p estilo="text alignment: justify;"Following this, Hayden also recounted an interesting incident from the match involving Symonds and former England star Kevin Pietersen. "He was hitting at the MCG and Kevin Pietersen was giving him a hard time from the spot of coverage. He took around 20 deliveries to go on strike and Symonds was only disappointed because he wanted to play test cricket. Hayden told him "Kevin played on, after which Symonds said, 'Kevin, just because you have tough stickers on your hands doesn't mean you're tough."

<p estilo="text alignment: justify;"Simmonds had scored 156 runs in that match and shared a 279-run partnership for sixth wicket with Hayden to eliminate Australia 363/6 from 84/5. Hayden also completed 150 as Australia beat England by one innings and 99 runs.
