Asian Championship 2023: The last league game of the Asian Cup saw a close clash between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan. First in this game, the Sri Lankan team scored 291 runs, losing 8 wickets on the board. In response, the Afghan team had to complete that goal in 37.1 overs to win that game. But the Afghan team was only 289 runs down and lost the match by two runs. The news was that the Afghan players playing on the pitch had no idea how they would qualify for the Super 4. The Afghan coach took his anger out on the match referee.

The Afghan team had a chance

The Afghan team failed to achieve that goal in 37.1 overs but had a chance to win the game by scoring boundaries in the next 2-3 balls. But the Afghan sub-team made a big mistake here, and the game went out of their hands. But news comes that the Afghan batsmen on the field had no idea they had a chance of winning. Afghanistan coach Jonathan Trott vented his frustration to the match referee. He said we don’t know the full qualification equation. He said after the game that those equations were never shared with us. All we were told was that we had to win in 37.1 overs. We weren’t told which overs we could win and gain an advantage in run rate.

The coach went on to say that I don’t think there is a single reason why we lose our games. There are areas in the game where we could have done better, and that goes for this game as well. We did some things very wrong in some areas and paid the price for it.
