Injury Woes Haunt Team India Before Major Tournament Appearance

India’s chances at the Champions Trophy 2025 have taken a hit with recent concerns surrounding star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah’s health. Due to a back injury, Bumrah has been advised complete bed rest and his participation in future matches will be determined only after the swelling has fully subsided.

Bumrah returned to India after a grueling five-Test series against Australia, and while the exact date for his next steps is still undecided, it has been reported that he will eventually visit the BCCI’s Center of Excellence. However, there will be no rush in his return; instead, he has been instructed to prioritize rest and recovery at home for the time being.

Sources close to the matter have revealed, “While Bumrah may report to the Center of Excellence within the next week, no specific date has been confirmed. For the time being, he has been advised to take complete rest at home to aid muscle recovery and reduce swelling. Only once this has been achieved will a further course of action be determined.”

There are concerns among some that being told to take “complete rest” may indicate a more severe issue, such as a disc bulge or high-grade muscle inflammation. As one insider noted, “Wrap them in cotton and treat them like that. Save the talent.”

India’s former strength and conditioning coach Ramji Srinivas has shared his insights on Bumrah’s path to recovery, stating that the extent of the swelling and muscle tear will significantly influence the pace of his rehabilitation. Srinivas highlighted that recovery grade, personal strength, and the quality of medical intervention, including post-medical rehabilitation work, will all play critical roles in determining Bumrah’s return to full fitness.
