Moreirense captain Marcelo voiced deep frustration after a last-minute goal secured a 2-1 victory for FC Porto, characterizing his team’s defeat as an undeserved “harsh punishment.”
Marcelo told reporters the late goal from Deniz Gül felt like “a very harsh punishment for us” given Moreirense’s performance.
He asserted that FC Porto “practically created nothing” during the match, aside from an early penalty.
The captain highlighted his team’s defensive strength. He noted that FC Porto had limited opportunities despite increased possession in the second half.
“It must be one of the games where FC Porto created the fewest opportunities,” Marcelo stated, emphasizing the blow of conceding late.
Despite the immediate disappointment, Marcelo expressed confidence in Moreirense’s squad. He believes they have a “good team” capable of a strong championship season.
“It’s about believing in the work and in the coach,” Marcelo said, indicating the team’s resolve.
He quickly shifted focus to the upcoming fixture. “Our heads are already on the next game,” he added, stressing the need to secure a win.
