Marc Pubill’s Olympic Quest with Spain

UD Almería and Marc Pubill are in luck as the versatile right back has been included in the pre-list of the Spanish team to compete in the Paris Olympic Games, which will take place from July 26 to August 11. Coach Santi Denia has called up 22 players, from which four will be left off the final list.

A key player for the Sub 21

Marc Pubill has been a crucial player for Almería this year, despite the team’s relegation, and his first season in the First Division has been impressive, attracting attention from several clubs. He was previously called up for the Sub 21 team to play a friendly and a qualifying match for the 2025 European Championship. If he ends up being selected for the Olympic Games, he would be the first UD Almería player to represent Spain in the event. However, the club may soon receive an important offer for him, which could make it difficult for him to remain with the team. The club values him at around 20 million euros and knows it will be a tough task to keep him in the Second Division.

The 22 preselected players will gather at the Las Rozas Football City on July 1 to work intensely and refine their preparation for the Olympic event. The coach will decide which four players to discard during this period. The Spanish team will travel to Bordeaux on July 18 to face the United States in a friendly, which will serve as final preparation before the competition. By then, the 18 players who will be part of the official expedition will have been defined, with Marc Pubill expected to be among them.
