Manpreet Singh, India’s bronze medalist at the Tokyo Olympics, will captain India in the upcoming FIH Pro League matches against South Africa and France, to be played from 8-12 February in Potschefstrom, South Africa. Hockey India announced a 20-man Indian hockey team for the tour of South Africa on Thursday, with drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh as vice-captain, Hockey India said Thursday.
The team will begin a busy season including the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, culminating in the Senior Men’s World Cup in Odisha later this year with four Pro League matches in January 2023.

Two new faces will be seen within the squad in the form of promising young drag-flicker Jugraj Singh and speedy striker Abhishek. Jugraj, who hails from Attari Amritsar, made his senior national camp debut in January 2022, when he impressed the national selectors during the first Hockey India Senior Interdepartmental National Championship.
Abhishek, on the other hand, is a striker who was previously part of the junior program and played for India Colts in the Sultan of Johor Cup in 2017 and 2018. Abhishek from Sonipat, Haryana did well in the first match for Punjab National Bank.

The 20-man squad includes goalkeeper PR Sreejesh, Krishan Bahadur Pathak, defenders Harmanpreet Singh, Amit Rohidas, Surendra Kumar, Varun Kumar, Jarmanpreet Singh and Jugraj Singh.
Manpreet Singh, Neelkant Sharma, Hardik Singh, Jaskaran Singh, Shamsher Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad will be seen in midfield action. The front line consists of Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Akashdeep Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Dilpreet Singh and Abhishek.
Speaking about the team, Head Coach Graham Reid said: “With a very busy and important year ahead of us, the Indian team is excited to return to the world stage and play in the new season of the FIH Hockey Pro League. After three -A The team has been selected for the week camp in Bangalore, which includes 14 Tokyo Olympians and 2 debutants.”
The Indian hockey team will depart for South Africa from Bangalore on February 4. They will play their first match against France on February 8 and then take on South Africa the following day. They will play France on this tour according to their schedule on February 12 and host South Africa the following day.

Defenders: Harmanpreet Singh (Vice Captain), Amit Rohidas, Surendra Kumar, Varun Kumar, Jarmanpreet Singh and Jugraj Singh.
Midfielders: Manpreet Singh (Captain), Neelkant Sharma, Hardik Singh, Jaskaran Singh, Shamsher Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad.
Forwards: Mandeep Singh, Lalit Kumar Upadhyay, Akashdeep Singh, Shilanand Lakra, Dilpreet Singh and Abhishek.
