Man with bow and arrow kills 5 in Copenhagen

A man armed with a bow and arrows killed 5 people who were shopping near the Norwegian capital Oslo on Wednesday before being detained, authorities said.

The Kongsberg City Police Chief said there was a “confrontation” between officers and the assailant, but did not elaborate.

Intensive therapy
Two other people were injured and hospitalized in intensive care units, including an officer who was off duty and inside the store where the attack occurred.

“The man who carried out the act has been arrested by the police, and there is no active search for more people. According to the information we have, there is only one person behind this, ”said Oeyving Aas.

Acting Prime Minister Erna Solberg said the attack was “grotesque,” and said it was too early to speculate on the assailant’s motives. Prime Minister-designate Jonas Gahr Stoere, who is expected to take office Thursday, called the attack a “cruel and brutal act” in remarks to the Norwegian news agency NTB.

Police were alerted to the attack around 6:30 p.m.
