Tondela goalkeeper Bernardo Fontes received man of the match honors after his team’s 0-3 defeat against Sporting, a recognition for his individual performance in a losing effort.
The award served as a consolation for Fontes, who faced a challenging game against one of Portugal’s top title contenders.
“Sporting is better than us,” Fontes told Sport TV after the match. He noted his team “tried to make a wall” defensively.
Despite the significant loss, Fontes expressed happiness with his personal performance. He added that Tondela had a “good entrance” to the game.
Even against a stronger opponent, Fontes maintained a competitive stance. “A defeat is always a defeat even against the big teams,” he said. “We are 11 against 11 and we have to win.”
