A fact not directly related to the competition in which the Balearic club is a finalist delights the vermilion fans with the King’s second trophy
RCD Mallorca have already reached the final of the Copa del Rey after defeating Real Sociedad and their fans are looking forward to their second title. For the older and younger fans between 25 and 30 years of age, this first victory is still a cherished memory. It happened in 2003 when the Balearic team beat Recreativo de Huelva 3-0.
Although the final was not played in La Cartuja but at the Elche CF (Martínez Valero) sports facility, this final is a very familiar sight for Mallorca. The excitement of winning the second Copa del Rey and the third top flight title is quite high. It must be remembered that the Mallorcan team also won the Supercup trophy in 1998.

Although it is not a fact directly related to the cup competition, it does have to do with their last rival (Real Sociedad) and the stage on which they played (Anoeta).. And fans of the vermilion club have started to look into history and recognized something that happened in 2003, the year the Balearic team won the Copa del Rey.
It happened exactly on Saturday November 22, 2003, when Mallorca already had the trophy in its showcases. But on that day, the then Mallorcan team, led by the late Luis Aragonés, defeated the Txuri Urdin team in Anoeta 0-1 with annotation by Samuel Eto’o. At this point the 12th matchday of the Spanish league was being played.

Next Thursday, February 29th, the decisive game against the Balearic club’s rivals in the cup final will take place. Whatever the opponent will be in La Cartuja, Javier Aguirre knows it will be quite difficult for him.
