Eric Lauer lasted seven innings, while Rowdy Tellez and Tyrone Taylor homered for the Milwaukee Brewers, who thrashed the Washington Nationals 7-0 on Friday night.
The Nationals didn’t score but put up a couple of big plays. In the top of the seventh inning, they attempted a home run from the field. At the bottom, they executed a triple play.
Washington trailed 2-0 when Lane Thomas hit the ball deep into center field for a 3-pointer. However, he was retired at the plate when he tried to extend the ball into a home run.
The Brewers had runners on first and second, with no basemen in the seventh inning, when Mexican Luis Urías hit a ground ball to third baseman Maikel Franco.
The Dominican stepped on the bag to start the triple play, from 5 to 4 to 3. It was the first triple play for the Nationals since July 30, 2016 in San Francisco.
Lauer (4-1) and Nationals starter Erick Fedde (2-3) were in a scoreless game until Urias walked in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Christian Yelich hit for a fielder’s choice, Tellez found Fedde’s next pitch and put the ball in the second deck of the stands.
For the Nationals, the Venezuelans César Hernández 4-0, Alcides Escobar 3-0. The Dominicans Juan Soto 4-1, Nelson Cruz 4-2, Franco 4-1, Víctor Robles 3-0.
For the Brewers, the Mexican Urías 2-0. The Venezuelan Omar Narvaez 4-1.
