Madrid Marathon: schedule, route, traffic cuts and bus lines affected

Running lovers from all over the world will gather in the capital of Spain this Sunday. This entails, in addition to hosting a major sporting event, numerous alterations in the functionality of the city. Next, we detail the changes that the city will adopt:

Scheduled schedule

The date and time scheduled for the start of the competition are 07:45 (approximately), while the end will be around 15:30.

Impact on traffic

On the occasion of the celebration of this new edition of the Rock and Roll Running Series Marathon Madrid 2021 and in order to preserve the safety of both those attending it and other users of the public road, Traffic cuts will be made in the following roads through which the 10, 21 and 42 kilometer Races will run:

As a complement to the above and due to the assembly / disassembly of the start and finish line of the sporting event, the following traffic cuts are planned:

Paseo de Recoletos (Central lanes area in both directions) in the section between the Plaza de Cibeles and the Plaza de Colón from 0 am on September 25 to 7 pm on September 26, 2021.

Paseo de la Castellana (central lanes in both directions), from Plaza de Colón to Plaza de Gregorio Marañón, from 10 p.m. on September 25 to 5 p.m. on September 26, 2021.

Although the use of public transport – preferably suburban – is recommended to travel around the city, if it is necessary to use a private vehicle to enter or leave the area affected by traffic interruptions, the following alternative itineraries are recommended:

Tetouan District

Access: Sister Angela de la Cruz tunnel.

Exit: Sor Ángela de la Cruz tunnel and through the Cuatro Caminos tunnel (Raimundo Fernández Villaverde-Avenida de Reina Victoria).

Salamanca district

Access: Plaza de Manuel Becerra along Calle Alcalá.

Departure: Plaza de Manuel Becerra along Calle Alcalá and side of Paseo de la Castellana-María de Molina-underpass to N-II.

Downtown District and Chamberí District (areas covered by the circuit)

Access and exit: Cuesta de San Vicente.

Retiro District. Jerónimos neighborhood

Departure: accesses to Alfonso XII (by filtration when the race allows it) to Plaza de la Independencia-Alcalá and O’Donnell.

Cuts in bus lines

EMT buses will also be affected by this massive event. In total, six night lines and 115 day lines will modify their routes.

Night lines

The lines that will deviate from your usual itinerary are the following: N1, N22, N23, N24, N25 and N26.

Furthermore, lLines 3, 5, 147 and 149 will not provide their service from 07:00 to 13:30. And line 61 will not operate it from 07:00 to 14:30.
