Madrid Invests 22M in Guadarrama Park Development

Junta, Gobierno y Comunidad de Madrid invierten 22 millones en el Parque del Guadarrama

Government Invests €15 Million to Maintain Guadarrama National Park

The government of Castilla y León has invested €15 million, along with the Autonomous Organization of National Parks, to maintain the Segovian slope of the Guadarrama National Park. This investment is driven by European funds from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and was added to the €7 million contribution from the Madrid community.

The investment will be used to promote infrastructure and actions to improve the park, which is one of the most popular in the network of national parks with annual visits. The projects included are the Casa de Cerrillos and Navafría, which will be implemented through the allocation of funds to improve this park.

At a meeting, Juan Carlos Suárez-Quiñones, the Minister of the Environment, Housing and Territorial Planning, presented several points on the agenda, including a report on activities carried out in 2023 and their investments. The report outlined all the work, investments, and management efforts made in the previous year.

Various projects were presented by the co-directors of the Castilla y León Park and the Madrid side, including the expansion of the Park down to the Lozoya Valley, adding around 1,000 more hectares. This proposal was welcomed by Carlos Novillo, the Minister of Environment, Agriculture and Interior of the Community of Madrid.

Novillo pointed out that the Community of Madrid had acquired a 465-hectare farm for €4 million that they intend to incorporate into this park, as it has high ecological value, including the nesting of the black vulture and the presence of the Iberian wolf.

Additionally, the improvement of the infrastructure of the National Center for Environmental Education was discussed, which would provide the center with more comfortable facilities to benefit the entire municipality.
