Hertha certified their relegation from the Bundesliga last weekend. A compromising situation that will force the Berlin club to get rid of some of its most iconic players. That is the case of Doki Lukebakio (9-24-1997, Belgium). One of their franchise footballers who is almost a foot and a half out of the team. Retaining Lukebakio in Bundesliga 2 seems almost impossible for the German entity. The Belgian has many outstanding clubs behind him.
At 25, Lukebakio is one of the few salvageable parts of a season to forget at Hertha. The right winger was the top scorer for the Berlin club in the German league with 11 goals. Several German teams have their eyes on the Belgian, but it is not the only championship that has an interest in Lukebakio. The Premier and Ligue 1 are other destinations that appear on the future horizon for the winger. Lukebakio has already played in both: he has worn the shirts of Toulouse and Watford.
Hertha will not give away the Belgian international, since despite the team’s relegation, his return to the Belgium team has raised his price. Hertha paid €20M in 2019 for their transfer to Watford and their sale price would be around that figure. The fact that he has an almost fixed place in Domenico Tedesco’s plans in the Belgium of the future opens the door for him to have a better price. Lukebakio’s contract expires in 2024.
