Meta, which owns Facebook, unveiled its own version of the artificial intelligence behind apps like ChatGPT on Friday, saying it would give researchers access to find solutions to the technology’s potential dangers.
Meta described its own artificial intelligence (AI), called LLaMA, as a “smaller, higher-performing” model designed to “help researchers advance their work,” in what could be seen as a veiled criticism of the decision to Microsoft to widely disseminate the technology, while keeping the programming code secret. ChatGPT, backed by Microsoft, has caused a sensation around the world for its ability to generate high-quality text, such as essays or poems, in seconds.
