Two controversial incidents have occurred in the world of Formula One. Charles Leclerc and Lance Stroll have been called to account, but the stewards have chosen to hand out a reprimand to both drivers, a punishment that carries no sporting consequences.
Leclerc’s incident took place during a routine lap in the final phase of Free Practice 3. He suddenly turned on Norris, feinting and steering the Ferrari to block his right front wheel. The move appeared to be an attempt to intimidate or show contempt for the rival driver.
Norris expressed concern on the radio, suggesting he might have suffered some damage. Although contact between the cars was not clearly evident, Leclerc’s action was undoubtedly unsportsmanlike and dangerous. As a professional driver, he should have exercised more restraint.
In the case of Stroll, the incident was even clearer. Upon encountering Hamilton, Stroll turned his car sharply to block the Englishman’s path, making clear contact with his side.
Formula One legend Damon Hill shared his thoughts on the incidents, saying, “Why do you want to bump into someone to vent your anger? It’s unprofessional.” Hill believes that both drivers should have been penalized for their actions, which were unacceptable even in a practice session.
