A grouping of leaders in the second-hand product marketing sector have set up in Spain AESEMAthe Spanish Association of Second Hand. Among the objectives of the association are the defense of this business activity, the updating of the regulation of the sector that today is obsolete, the digitization of processes, in addition to promoting the sustainable consumption through reuse.

AESEMA is made up of some of the main retailers and digital second-hand buying and selling platforms in our country, among which are Cash-Converters, CeX, GAME, Milanuncios (Adevinta Spain) and Wallapop.

One of the main challenges facing the association is updating the regulations that govern this market. Currently, an obsolete regulation is in force that does not adjust to the new realities, as stated by Blanca PiedrolaPresident of AESEMA, “it is an update of the current regulations regarding the obligations of documentary registration and the digitalization of the processes is urgent so that the commercialization of second-hand articles is a safe value, in a context in which this form of conscious consumption is in full swing

With this objective, AESEMA is maintaining meetings with the State Security Forces and Bodies and works on the signing of agreements with the different Autonomous Governments. Currently, a formalized agreement with the Government of the Basque Country.

Reuse, the value on which AESEMA supports

AESEMA bet on the circularitypromoting and facilitating a conscious and responsible consumption with the planet. The companies that are part of it contribute decisively to the environmental sustainability, promoting reuse of products to reduce the negative environmental impact of manufacturing new products.

“Need a shift towards a more sustainable economy, that works for both people and the planet. By extending the useful life of millions of products of all kinds, we are entering the wheel of the circular economy and promoting much more conscious consumption among the population”, comments Blanca Piédrola, who adds: “Every time a person chooses a product second-hand, is having a positive impact on the conservation of the environment and contributing to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations. For this reason, at AESEMA we want to jointly promote these values, just as the companies in the sector have done independently up to now”.
