La Romana sweeps the National Athletics Championship

The representation of La Romana imposed its dominance once again by winning with relative ease the National Championship of Jumping, Throwing, Semi-Fondo, Fund and Athletics March.

The Roman athletes accumulated 162 points to win the trophy of champions of the event organized by the Dominican Federation of Athletics Associations (FADD).

The championship took place on Saturday on the warm-up track of the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Center with the participation of almost 300 athletes from all over the country.

Another province from the Eastern region finished in second place, after El seibo totaled 123 points in the event.

La Vega and Monte Plata finished tied in third position with 52 points, followed by Puerto Plata and Barahona, with 50 and 44 units for each province.

San Cristóbal finished in seventh position with 43 units, followed by San Pedro, 39; Elias Pina, 36; San Juan achieved 32.5 points, Espaillat 31, the Province of Santo Domingo obtained 27, Santiago, 25; herd Major 22; Monsignor Noel, 20; National District 18; Independence, 15; San Francisco de Macoris, 11; Montecristi, 8; Santiago Rodríguez achieved six and La Altagracia four.

With the celebration of the contest, the Athletics Federation complies with the instructions of the North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC), in relation to the classifications for the quotas of the Central American and Caribbean Games San Salvador, which will be made , taking the placement in the ranking, in each category and not by the marks that are achieved in the competitions.

“The athletes who will be in the Central American and Caribbean Games will not reach their classification by brands, but in the best positions in the national rankings,” he commented.

Gilberto Santana, from La Romana and Soranyi Rodríguez, from Monseñor Nouel (Bonao) were the most outstanding athletes, winning two gold medals each.

Likewise, Rosa Ángelina Santana, from San Pedro de Macorís, with an extraordinary mark of 17.32 meters in shot put.

In addition, Julio Doroteo, from El Seibo, was crowned champions; Nailea López, from Barahone; Alexandra Taussaint and Yucreisi Mesela, from Rome; Jorge Méndez, from Santiago; Alex de los Santos, from San Juan; the vegan Samuel López; Juan Carlos Montes, from San Pedro de Macorís; Francheska Duperval, from Puerto Plata and Alyandra Reyes from San Cristobal, among others.

Rodríguez was proclaimed in 1,500 and 10,000 meters, with respective times of 4:46.49 and 34:59.56. For his part, Santana won the 5,000 and 10,000m tests, with records of 14:49.48 and 30:43.88.

Doroteo dominated the 1,500m with a time of 3:58.90 and López won the women’s 5,000m with a time of 18:48.79. Méndez won the athletic march (10 thousand meters=, with a time of 42:34.08

Toussaint ran the 10,000-meter track walk in 53:53.98 and De los Santos ran the 3,000-meter walk in a time of 9:31.50.

Vegans López and Juan Ignacio Acosta won gold and silver in the high jump with marks of 2.10 and 2.02 meters.

Mesela and Montes were the pole vault monarchs, dominating their events with respective marks of 3.35 and 4.40m. While Duperval prevailed in the long jump with 5.81m.

Mayelin López and Juandel Bueno, from Seibana, competing for the Athletics Federation, won gold in the women’s and men’s triple jump. They achieved successive marks of 11.79 and 16.41m.

Laura Maguá, from La Romana, prevailed in the launch of the disc with a mark of 46.55. In female, the monarch was Lisandro Osoria, from Espaillat, with 46.96m.

The javelin throw champions were Yesi Tejada from Monte Plata (45.91) and Enrique Agesta from Rome, who threw 42.78 meters.

The gold metals in shot put were held by Rosa Angélica Tejada from Petromacoris and Emilio Santana from La Plata, who reigned with marks of 17.32 and 13.92, successively.

Santana was escorted by Julio Rijo from Rome (12.93m) and Camilo Sánchez from Monte Plata (12.49). While in women’s, silver went to Mayelin López from Seibana with 12.68 and bronze was won by Yesi Tejada, from Monte Plata, with 11.68.
