The 18 Euroleague clubs face the second doubleheader of the season between today and Friday, two continental matches separated by only 48 hours in the same week. A peculiarity of the calendar that began in October 2016. If we stack up all the matches played under this format since then, Real Madrid would lead a unique classification with 53 wins and 19 losses, a 73.6% win (See table). The white team is the king of doubleheadersalthough in the first of this course (October 19 and 21), he lost one round (Olympiacos) and won another (Red Star). Beats in seven victories against CSKA, Barça in eight, Olympiacos in nine and Efes in eleven.
this week arrives the second of the seven planned, one per month until the end of the regular phase, except in March when there will be two. Seven double-headers that get the most out of the teams, because to those two clashes we must add a third in the national leagues, which is especially tough in the ACB. The Euroleague double duels were born with the calendar change in the 2016-17 campaign, when it was released the all against allbut until 2019 there were 16 clubs instead of 18 and there were only five weeks of concentration, on the sidelines after the playoffs and the Final Four.
Since October 2016 they have been disputed 72 games in double session and Madrid (balance of 53-19), Barcelona (45-27) and Baskonia (34-38) have played them all. Valencia has 38 (18-20) and there are two other Spaniards, Unicaja (4-6) and Gran Canaria (2-8). In total, up to 28 teams add matches with this format, the most recent Partizán and Virtus Bologna, which debuted last month, and of them only eight (of 28) exceed 50% wins in these demanding commitments (Partizán, with 1-1, and Zenit, with 18-18, are at 50%). Of those that do not appear in the table, only AS Monaco exceeds that figure, in its second season in the Euroleague, with 10-6, a 62.5% win rate.
